Jom Heboh Ipoh 2012

It's been ages since my last visit to Ipoh, so it was pretty cool when I was told I'd be "on duty" at Jom Heboh this past weekend. We left KL on Friday evening and the drive took around 2 hours plus. We went into the city centre looking for a makan place, but driving "blind" with no map or guide whatsoever, we actually got lost, going round and round, without finding anything significant. So we decided just to check in to our hotel, the Impiana, and had some hotel grub.

The next day, it was time for me to suit up and face the Jom Heboh heat and crowd. Getting to the location, Stadium Indera Mulia, was pretty easy though. I just looked out for some stadium floodlights and drove towards it.

First up for me was co-hosting "Sembang-Sembang Jom Heboh" with "WHI"'s Azzura and "Mag 7"'s Irin.  And we had a special guest on set as well, Filipino award-winning actor, Dingdong Dantes! Yup, the dude's been raking in the ratings on TV3 through a few telenovelas, the latest one being "Endless Love". The buzz on Dingdong had been pretty good with him causing extreme excitement amongst Media Prima staff the day before Jom Heboh itself.

The interview itself went pretty well. And I must say Dingdong turned out to be a down-to-earth dude who loved to eat! He was game enough to brave the heat at the Women's booth and entertained all picture-taking requests from his fans. But then again, I was informed by his entourage that the weather's much more punishing in Manila, so I guess it wasn't too tough for him after all. Hehe.

And talking about the weather, it turned out to be pretty erratic throughout the entire two days there. It was nice and breezy in the morning, scorching hot in the afternoon, and it rained suddenly on both days after 4pm!

Apart from "Sembang-Sembang", I also recorded two other crossover segments that were aired around 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. But one of the highlights I need to mention here of course was my first taste of the famous "nasi ganja". Yup, that's the name, and you're allowed to say it out loud, like this... "SAYA NAK NASI GANJA!!!" Haha. Anyway, the kind peeps of TV3 got someone to buy a few packs of this local delicacy and together with Dindong and his entourage, we gobbled down the good stuff in no time at all.

My verdict? It's somewhat like nasi kandar but with a slightly different sambal concoction. The fried chicken was also absolutely delicious. So yes, as they say on social media-land... WIN!

We also had some time to do some ronda-ronda around Ipoh town. Weren't looking for anything in particular but I was told on fb to try out some of the food at  Dataran Ipoh.

The place wasn't too hard to find, but we had to follow our instincts as to which stall to choose. We saw one with a good crowd and ordered the char kuey teow. Which turned out to be pretty good, really.

I also organised the 15th round of Larian 40 Taman at Ipoh's famous Padang Polo, but that's for a different post altogether.

And oh, we also stopped by Ipoh Parade, but you know-lah, a mall's a mall, no matter where in Malaysia :) But I must say the crowd at Jom Heboh was really happening and the people came out in droves. Hate to use the cliche, but "Ipoh mali talak sombong!" Hehe.

ASK & KJH

So, all of us at Alt Media are gearing up for a pretty busy year-end. In just a few hours, ANUGERAH SKRIN will be coming to you live from PWTC. And of course we've got some excellent online offerings!

At 7.30pm, there will be a live-streaming of the RED CARPET event! This is exclusively online, so you can't catch it anywhere else except at www.tv3.com.my/ask09 . The celebs will even be tweeting live! How cool is that???

And of course, throughout the entire show, photos and results will be updated almost at real time at www.gua.com.my. So loads to look at.

Oh yeah, raise your hand if you're a fan of NUR KASIH! Wow, so many guys as well... hehe. Anyway, now you can order the DVD online thru www.tv3.com.my/nurkasih.

But if you're a hardcore fan (stop jumping already!), you can MEET the stars of the show, TIZ ZAQYAH and UMMI NAZEERA at the GUA booth tomorrow and Sunday at KARNIVAL JOM HEBOH, Bukit Jalil. Come by the booth at 5pm to see them!

Heboh In JB

So as expected, Jom Heboh in JB this past weekend was hot, humid and happening. But Saturday did begin with a heavy downpour, and that affected the turnout somewhat.

But things got going soon after and the GUA booth saw a steady stream of people, most of whom swarmed ‘Mingguan Lelaki’ leading man, Fazren Rafi.
...

I managed to check out some of the other booths as well and discovered these two interesting things to eat.

First, “Tempe Stick”! I absolutely love tempe and this is the first time I’ve come across the thing stuck on a stick. My verdict? Quite yummy, but not satisfying enough.
...

Then, it was time for “Satay Burger”. Another interesting concept, and it was rather good, I must say. Would have been better if it wasn’t cold already.
...

Back at the GUA booth, things got even more interesting on the first day when Gangstarz 2 winners One Nation Emcees dropped by and did their brand of hip hop gelek…
...

It was absolutely burning hot on Sunday, and a few hundred thousand more people dropped by…

We had Aweera of OIAM3 for day two and dude did his whole “tarik suara” thing of course…
...

It was pandemonium in the evening when OIAM3 champ Tomok dropped by, but damn, I don’t have any pics.

We also debuted the brand new GUA T-shirt and managed to sell quite a number of pieces. The caps we brought also sold out.

And oh yeah, since I got a lot of request about it, here’s the mee rebus I ate on people’s behalf. You know who you are!

Heboh in Miri!

It rained most of the time this time around, but that didn't damper the spirits of Mirians at the Karnival Jom Heboh this past weekend.

Hundreds of thousands thronged to the Boulevard Mall to join in the festivities and I think they went home satisfied. Especially since GUA.COM.MY was also there.

As usual, the main activity for us was member registration, and the response was pretty good. And we also had games where exclusive merchadise like the KK3 Calendar, mugs, T-shirts and KK DVDs were given away.

But the real star at our booth was the star of Kerana Karina, Marsha, herself. The girl was just bubbly throughout and got the people to join the the games where they had to do some really ridiculous things. Haha!

Marsha also signed autographs and took pictures with her fans who literally jam-packed the GUA booth.

The second day also saw AF star Aizat making a visit. He sang a couple of songs and got the girls (especially) screaming for more.

Overall, a good outing for GUA and definitely we'll be coming back next year. Cos you know, I just have to have my mee kolok lah...

Jom Heboh JB - Memang Heboh!

So the “Perhimpunan sejuta rakyat” DID take place last weekend, but it was down in JB for the Karnival Jom Heboh, which GUA was a part of.

And I’m not exaggerating. Just look at the picture…
jom heboh

Although it rained on both days, the people just never stopped coming. Which of course means it was a huge success. Bravo!

And for GUA, it was our first visit to JB and what a sporting lot my kampung people turned out to be : ) Both of our main activities, the guamuzik Idol singing competition and the Kerana Karina open audition, received great response to say the least. But then again, it wasn’t really huge a surprise knowing how talented Johoreans are. Ahem.

Even our guest artistes were true-blue JB gals, Dina and Tunku Tiara. Both of them played games with the booth visitors and also sang a song or two. Tiara was also one of the judges for our own Idol alongside yours truly and Johan Nawawi.

Registration of new members was also opened and that has helped to push GUA registered membership to more than 110,000!

But it was the guamuzik Idol that had people thronging to the booth. And the final held on the second day did see a lineup of decent talents battling it out for the Idol crown which also came with a speaker system, an MP3 player and GUA goodies.

So overall, KJH JB was an awesome success. And as we like to say here at Media Prima, “Penatnya, tapi berbaloi… Bonus nanti bagi lebih skit boleh?”

And oh, even the MB popped by for a visit…

So this past weekend, GUA camped out at Karnival Jom Heboh, Bukit Jalil. And as usual, we had loads of cool activities and artistes at the booth which attracted droves of people. Most interesting tho was the GUAmuzik Idol, held for the first time ever, attracting some really talented (and not-s0 talented) people. Wait for the video the come out - loads of great content, I can assure you...

Jom Heboh Melaka - Day 2

Day 2 of KJH Melaka was simply awesome! How can it not be when "Melodi" decided to have its live crossover episode right in front of the GUA booth?! And that's not all, 20 big bikers led by "Jelma" star Norman Hakim were to be featured prominently as well. And, um, I also got my 90seconds of fame on the number 1 entertainment show on TV!
