Here It Is...

So February has proved to be my least productive blogging month so far. But there’s a simple explanation for it. Whatever writing time I’ve had these past few weeks had been spent working on this…

Yes, M.Zulkifli the screenwriter is getting more serious these days. After completing the first movie screenplay (co-written with Izham Omar), my second handy work is something called “Mingguan Lelaki”. Intriguing, huh?

Before I get into the story, FYI, “Mingguan Lelaki” is a made-for-web drama which will be shown on - surprise, surprise - GUA.COM.MY. Which means, the format will be 20 4-5min episodes. The story has to move faster, and each episode must end with a cliffhanger to make sure you lot return to watch it right till the end.

As for the story, “Mingguan Lelaki” is about a guy - a tech geek to be specific - who accidentally works for a trashy men’s magazine. So yes, I didn’t have to look far for story inspiration. But of course I had to throw in a major story arc that involves a love-triangle of some sort. The "market" loves it when you throw this in...

Still, you’ll see loads of very realistic goings-on at a lad rag organization including photoshoots, babes and more babes. And I’m taking it as far as I can with themes like self-love (ahem), celebrity crush, homosexuality, jealousy and how to build robots.

Yes, intriguing stuff indeed.

So You’ve Got Talent, Malaysia?

In conjunction with Yasmin Ahmad’s latest film “Talentime”, gua.com.my is organising a Talentime contest of its own.

So if you can sing, dance or play a musical instrument, all you have to do is upload your video at a dedicated microsite HERE. Prizes await weekly winners who will go into the final pool at the end of 5 weeks of competition. The category champions will then receive RM5,000 each! Woohoo!

So if you’ve got any of the above talent, just get someone to capture it on video (but NOT when people are sleeping, ok?), and submit it now! It’s THAT easy…

FYI, Talentime the movie stars Jaclyn Victor, Pam Chong, Adibah Noor, Harith Iskander and a slew of other talented faces. It opens in cinemas 26th March.

Sampai Syurga Is It?

So those who watched last month's Anugerah Juara Lagu must remember Faizal Tahir's performance of "Sampai Syurga" that won him the Best Performance trophy.

Basically he had people "styling" him for the first part of the song and he eventually transformed into a different person by the end of it.

This was what went down during the "styling" bit of his show...
......

So i kinda tried the same thing at a recent management retreat where I sang that very song. And here's MY own styling "bit"...
...

But while Faizal eventually turned into this...
...

I turned into this instead...

My Classic Editor's Letter 2

The standard model “guy” is a pretty straightforward being. When we tell our lady to shut her trap so we can watch some footie, it means just that. There are no hidden messages whatsoever. And it certainly does not mean, “Honey, now is the best time to talk about where this relationship is going.”

Retreat, But No Surrender

Haha, just couldn’t resist the catchy title lah. Anyway, amidst the unfriendly economic times, a bunch of us from the office got together for the annual management retreat in Kuantan these past few days. Not been to the Hyatt for a while but the place still looks grand and spiffy.

The agenda this time around is more relaxed tho. No more running around at 1am looking for numbers to put together business plans. Instead, the focus was more on the people and how to maximize resources during these tough times.

So the atmosphere was more chilled out the entire time. Although we did play a sort of War Games that had us walking in jungles and plantations and resisting terrorist attacks – all in the comfort of the ballroom lah : )

Food’s ok, not aplenty but with enough choices. And I managed to resisting piling my plate.

Until the barbecue dinner, that is…

And yes, our small internal band D’Kechewas was also given the opportunity to entertain the rest. Which turned out to be one happy karaoke session…

That ended when everyone sang – believe it or not – “We Are The World”. Overall, a fruitful and fun retreat with plenty of highlights to write home about…
